Background
The Bulk Cargo Terminal is, from both a technological and financial perspective, certainly one of the most significant projects in Croatia as part of the Trade and Transport Integration Project. Its function is to increase the bulk cargo capacity to over 6 million tons annually in the final phase and improve transshipment technology. It is located on the right bank of the mouth of the Vlaška channel, covering an area of approximately 240,000 m². In 2014, the company GIU CYES-VIADUKT TERMINAL signed a contract with 3 M d.o.o. for the supply and installation of a desalination plant.
Challenges
It is important to emphasize that during the design, the highest ecological standards were applied in handling bulk cargo. To eliminate potential dust pollution in the city of Ploče during unfavorable winds, in addition to the strategic position, a dust suppression system (spraying bulk materials in the first phase) is used, which utilizes desalinated water stored in an accumulation lake. 3 M d.o.o. is involved in the construction of the water treatment system with a 3M SW desalination unit.
Solutions
The plant consists of a 3M SW unit for seawater desalination using reverse osmosis, which can supply 520 m³/day of drinking water. The unit is housed in a container located on the very bank of the Vlaška channel.
Results
The plant produces 520,000 liters per day of drinking-quality water for the bulk cargo spraying system.
